About LinguaScribe

Answers to common questions about language extenders such as LinguaWin.

Q. Does LinguaScribe translate text?

A. No. LinguaScribe makes it possible to enter text in a foreign language without using the keyboard mapping of that foreign language. The English phonetic symbols entered by the user are converted by the program into that foreign language.

Q. Do I have to know the foreign language to use LinguaScribe?

A. Yes. LinguaScribe does not teach you the language. You are supposed at least to know how to say what you want to write. You also have to learn how to write a phonetic representation of what you want to write.

Q. Do I have to know the foreign language keyboard mapping?

A. No. LinguaScribe enables users to use English mapping.

Q. Does LinguaScribe include proofing tools or spell checkers?

A. No. LinguaScribe transliterates sounds. It is used with Indian languages which have no spell checkers at the moment.
