If you write in a language other than US English, you've probably wished that you could use the spell checkers in your Office applications and in other languages as well. Well, you can! You can use either Microsoft Proofing Tools or third party proofing tools for Russian

All you need to make Office proof in your language is the appropriate Microsoft Proofing Tools package. Each package contains the same spelling dictionary and hyphenation file that Microsoft incorporates in foreign versions of Office. Packages for many languages include thesaurus and/or grammar files as well.

The Office Language Selector, included with each Proofing Tools package, lets you tell Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint what Proofing Tools language to use when spell-checking text.

In Word, you specify the language of the text right in your document. When you check spellings or grammar, ask for synonyms, or use the Hyphenation command, Word checks the language format you have applied to your text, then uses the appropriate dictionary, thesaurus, or grammar file for that language. From English to French to German and back to English again, Word switches from one language to another, automatically.

Language formatting is also available in PowerPoint, so that you can easily check multiple languages in the same presentation.

The table below shows the language packages for use with Office 97 for Windows 95 and Windows NT, and what proofing tools are included in each package. If you intend on switching between language groups, please read this notice about possible problems.

System Requirements

To run the Proofing Tools, use a Windows-compatible computer equipped with one or more Microsoft Office 97 applications (Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook and/or PowerPoint).

These applications require the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation operating system version 3.51 or later. No additional system resources are required, beyond those recommended for these versions of Office and Windows.

The tools are supplied on a compact disc.
